AICTE / QIP sponsored short-term course on
Spectral Analysis of Networks
July 18 -31, 2016
Department of Mathematics, IIT Kharagpur
THE COURSE IS WITHDRAWN UNTILL FURTHER NOTICE
The concept of networks for modelling and analysis of interconnected systems has been gaining prime importance in several areas of science and engineering. Network systems have become a fundamental tool in analyzing many real life complex systems. The spectral and statistical properties of the corresponding network systems provide salient features of the dynamics and evolution of these systems.
In the big data analysis, most often, the given data is used to create networks whose spectral properties capture useful information about the data and found applications in many areas. In order to gain insights of a network, various matrices have been introduced in literature, for example, adjacency matrix, incidence matrix, Laplacian matrix, signless Laplacian matrix, normalized Laplacian matrix whose spectral properties are used to investigate various structural and dynamical properties of the corresponding networks.
Course Objectives:
-
To discuss the mathematical rigour of spectral theory of networks.
-
To emphasise the applications of spectral theory of networks into analysing various structural and
dynamical properties of networks.
Course Contents:
-
Spectral graph theory.
-
Complex networks in science and engineering.
-
Application of spectra of networks into solving problems which arise in real world networks.
